The Moore Lions came into Friday night’s home game against the Del City Eagles with the high of winning the John Noble Invitational Tournament last weekend.
Winning against the top ranked 5A team would prove to be a tougher assignment though.
It took a couple minutes, but once senior guard Devante Hurst grabbed his first offensive board and laid it back in, the Lions’ offense went on a good role in the first.
Defense was up too as Dorion Gigger led the intensity with two blocks in the first half. That was followed by several Lions stepping up and taking charges.
Despite all of that, Moore was down 45-33 going into the fourth quarter.
Usually a high percentage scoring team, the Lions had trouble all night from point-blank range, and they would shoot around fifty percent from the free-throw line. Del City’s big men down low challenged everything Moore put up.
Del City outplayed the Lions this time, winning the game 62-48.
