Stephanie Meyer may be a household name these day.....possibly an infamous one at that, but writer/director Andrew Niccol(
Gattaca,
Lord of War) is far less known, but has made some excellent sci-fi movies in the past and is looking to bat a thousand with
The Host.
The story takes place on an earth that is already run by aliens inhabiting the bodies of humans(think
Invasion of the Body Snatchers) and follows a girl named Melanie(Saoirse Ronan) who is captured by the the aliens and is implanted with one called "Wanderer". The movie will show her internally struggling with Wanderer over love, rebellion, and even the fate of the human race. The movie looks captivating, emotionally charged, and (dare we say it) more complex than what we've come to expect from young adult novel adaptions.
I'll be the first to admit that
The Twilight Saga is not my cup of tea, but everything in this trailer looks pretty intriguing to say the least. This is defintiely a movie that sci-fi buffs and fans of Meyer's work will want to check out.
Keep an eye out for
The Host when it invades theaters March 29
