Here are some of the major highlights from this afternoon’s special Moore Public Schools Board meeting:
Grab and go food service will begin on Monday, March 23 and will continue through the end of school closure. Free meals will be available for pickup outside of school facilities from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Breakfast and lunch will be provided together. Here are schools where the grab-and-go meals will be available:
Apple Creek Elementary
Plaza Towers Elementary
Santa Fe Elementary
Sky Ranch Elementary
Winding Creek Elementary
Central Junior High
Highland West Junior High
Moore West Junior High
Superintendent Romines indicated he was very proud of the work done by the Child Nutrition Department to pull this together, especially the work of Pam Hart and Jimmy Martin over the last 72 hours under difficult circumstances.
SALARY FOR CERTIFIED EMPLOYEES
MPS certified, regular contract employees are covered by state statues and are exempt from loss of pay during a state-mandated shutdown. Teachers will be paid for the next two weeks.
SALARY FOR DISTRICT SUPPORT EMPLOYEES
These employees are not addressed by state statues. Superintendent Romines told the board that administrators have been working with legal staff to make sure this was handled well. The district will pay these part-time and full-time employees for 10-days during the next two weeks. The district will be sending out an email regarding this.
WILL MISSED TWO WEEKS BE MADE UP
MPS will be requesting waivers for the days of school missed because of the coronavirus along with financial waivers and waivers for testing. More info will be provided as it becomes available.
ACADEMIC RESOURCES FOR PARENTS
Academic resources – delivery of education services has ceased. MPS is working on links to academic resources for parents to use if they choose to use them for a voluntary purpose. Parents are not required to use them. They are just there if parents want to use them. There will be no grading or requirements. They are simply website resources for parents.
Some business services along with nutrition services and maintenance will continue as needed.
Some workers will be onsite, they will be associated with child nutrition and maintenance
The April 4th ACT test date has been cancelled.
Extracurricular activities and rental of MPS facilities have all been suspended or cancelled for the next two weeks. No athletic events or practices of any kind.
State organizations are working to try and figure out how to give athletic teams and fine arts groups a chance to finish out the year with competitions and events.
Encouraging social distancing, regular hand-washing, avoiding large gatherings, and paying attention to personal health as well as self-quarantining if necessary.
